Recent fly-by sent planes within 100 vertical feet of each other.
Members of the Congressional infrastructure and aviation committees expressed concerns in response to the continuing incidents occurring in America’s aviation system.
The most recent incident occurred a week ago when a FedEx Boeing 767 cargo plane and a Southwest Airlines 737-700 crossed flight paths, leaving less than 100 vertical feet between each other.
U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) chair Jennifer Homendy said the event could have been “catastrophic.”
“Right now the alarm bells should be going off across the aviation industry — our system is stretched and stressed,” said Representative Garret Graves of Louisiana, the chair of a subcommittee on aviation.
